PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course

Exploration, excitement and experiences are what scuba diving is all about. The Advanced Open Water Diver course is designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification. The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. You log dives and develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun scuba diving.

The choice is yours

You’ll make 2 core dives.  These orients you to the fundamentals of advanced diving and include the following:

  • Underwater Navigation
  • Deep Diving (typically anywhere from 18 meters to 30 meters)

and then choose 3 “elective” dives from among following :

  • AWARE – Fish Identification
  • Boat Diver
  • Digital Underwater Photography
  • Peak Performance Buoyancy
  • Underwater Naturalist
  • Diver Propulsion Vehicle
  • Drift Diver – Only available at our Borneo Divers Mabul Resort
  • Multilevel Diver
  • Night Diver
  • Search and Recovery Diver

The PADI Advanced Open Water Divers Course can be completed in 2 days. On completion of the course, you will be awarded a Advanced Open Water Diver Wall Certificate and a Certification Card.


  • 15 years old (12 years old for Junior Advanced Open Water Diver)
  • Be a PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent

Fill out the Medical History Form, Liability Release Form (Waiver) and Express Assumption of Risk Form.

What you learn

The knowledge and skills you get in the Advanced Open Water Diver Course vary with your interest and the adventures you have, but include

  • Practical aspects of deep diving
  • Physiological effects of deeper scuba diving
  • More ways to use your underwater compass
  • How to navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time
  • How to better use your Electronic Dive Planner (eRDP)
  • and much, much more depending on the Adventure Dives you choose


Each of your PADI Advance Open Water Dives may be credited towards the appropriate PADI Specialty Dive course. This program is a prerequisites to the PADI Rescue Diver Course. Your diving knowledge development applies to the Divemaster Rating.  You can also work towards the highest and most prestigious non-teaching rating awarded by PADI which is the  PADI Master Scuba Diver.

DAY 1 0810 Pick up from hotel to Star Marina
0830 Registration at Star Marina
0900 Depart for Mamutik Island.  Check in to the dormitory
0930 Session 1:  Elective dive
1230 Lunch
1330 Session 2:  Underwater navigation
1530 Return to Star Marina. Transfer back to hotel.
DAY 2 0810 Pick up from hotel to Star Marina
0900 Depart for Mamutik Island.
0930 Session 3: Deep dive
1100 Session 4 : Elective dive
1230 Lunch
1330 Session 5 : Elective dive
1530 Return to Star Marina.  Transfer back to hotel.

A minimum pre-flight surface interval of 18 hours after diving is recommended.
