Once again in 2015, at Borneo Divers we are getting ready to celebrate and do our part in relation to World Turtle Day which takes place in May each year.
What is World Turtle day all about?
This internationally recognised day, started back in the year 2000, with a focus to increase respect and knowledge for the worlds oldest creatures. Our turtles are some of the most amazing and endangered creatures on the planet and so we at Borneo Divers believe that we have a duty of care to protect and preserve them.
This year we are very proud to have the generous support and experience of Dr Pushpa and her team of staff and volunteers from Universiti Malaysia Sabah to help us make this a most memorable event.
As divers we are taught very much to “look but don’t touch” in relation to all marine life, regardless of how tempting it may be.
This now, is your opportunity to get up close and personal with these magnificent animals as divers can get a full-hands on experience as to how we catch, tag, record, monitor and release these magnificent creatures.
To celebrate this event, Borneo Divers Mabul Resort are making a huge splash for 2015, as we are actually turning World Turtle Day into a whopping 4 day event.
In that 4 days you can expect to experience some real hands-on fun with our prehistoric friends, receive very rare training and presentations from world-renowned professionals and fully embrace the beauty of our underwater world at the same time!
Here are just a few activities that we have lined up this year:
– Turtle catching, measuring and tagging
– Turtle awareness workshops
– Live shows and performances from the young people from our local island community
– Island and underwater clean-ups
– Experience our local Mabul kids competing for some great sponsored prizes for their schools on activities with a distinctive “turtle” theme
– Sponsor a turtle and get that feeling of putting something “back” into the environment
Whats great about this event is that every cent raised is out back into the marine programme on the island with an emphasis to beautify and enhance our fragile marine ecosystem whilst offering education and awareness for all.
We love the fact that every year we get to work even closer with our local community young and old and this year will again be no exception. Forging even closer bonds each year with the very people that share our gorgeous island with us is one of the most important things that we do and we cant wait for you to be part of it too.
Just for this event, we are offering a very special price of just RM2000.00 for a 5day/4night divers package and RM1600.00 for a 5day/4night non-divers package. A remarkable deal!
Spaces are filling fast however for an event that promises to be as fun as it is educational.
